THE ESTIMATION OF SLAG PROPERTIES
The structure of SiO2 is a 3D –array (Figure 9a,b) with (i) each Si4+ surrounded by 4 O2- arranged tetrahedrally and (ii) and each O2- connected to two O2- (denoted bridging O) which causes the formation of a 3-D array. Cations eg Na+ or Ca2+ break the chain by forming a bond, O2- -- Na+ (denoted non-bridging O).
